What is redemption (or “redemption period”)?
Redemption is a period of time, variable depending on the extension of the domain, following expiry and which preludes the cancellation of the domain by the Registry.
During the redemption period the domain can still be renewed by the Registrant, but at an increased price.

When does a domain go into redemption?
It depends on the extension (TLD) of the domain; some TLDs go into redemption immediately after the expiry (e.g. .it), others 30 days after the expiry (e.g. at), others 40 days after the expiry (e.g. .com .net .org .info), others even in advance with respect to the natural expiry, and therefore must necessarily be renewed with more or less long advances compared to the expiry (e.g. .ch .jp .li)

How long does the redemption process take?
It depends on the TLD. And since in some cases it also involves manual operations, it can sometimes take a few days before the operation is completed and your domain is back online.
Even in cases where the redemption is processed by automatic systems (such as .it), the operation can take a few hours (especially due to the DNS propagation process, following the conclusion of the redemption).

How much does domain redemption cost?
The redemption of a domain is a process that can also be significantly expensive, and which can vary depending not only on the TLD, but also on the Registrar through which the domain is registered. In fact, it can also involve processes, more or less complicated, to be carried out by hand, and this obviously affects the cost of the service.
In turn, various retailers apply the most varied commercial redemption policies, adding further variability.
Add to this the fact that very few Registrars make the redemption costs public and clear: very often, it is simply specified "open a ticket"...

Furthermore, we pride ourselves on offering the most globally convenient prices in this regard: precisely because we link them to our actual costs - rather than applying flat rates - on the redemption of many TLDs we are able to charge prices significantly lower than the competition, while on others we are aligned.

How to prevent a domain from going into redemption?
There is only one way to prevent a domain from going into redemption: renew it in time.
Therefore, always avoid last minute renewals, and always carry them out MINIMUM 15 days - 1 month before the expiry date.
Or perhaps directly carry out a multi-year renewal, which will postpone the problem for a few years...

The domain expires tomorrow, but I can't renew it today: can you avoid letting it go into redemption?
The terms change a bit, but this request has been presented to us more than once.
The answer is, clearly, no.
The respective Registry places the domains in redemption when required; and the only way to prevent him from doing so is to regularly notify him of the successful and timely renewal.
Therefore: the only way to prevent a domain from going into redemption is to renew it.

The domain is in redemption mode: can I transfer it to another Registrar?
Normally a domain can only be transferred during its normal period of validity; therefore, a redeemed domain cannot be transferred.
